The free movement of persons means that internal land, sea and air borders within the Schengen area may be crossed at any place without checks being carried out, regardless of the person’s nationality (Article 20 of the Schengen Borders Code). Article 22 of the Schengen Borders Code stipulates that Member States are under obligation to remove all obstacles which hinder the free flow of passengers at road crossing points at internal borders.
